The misinformation out there about diabetes and misunderstanding of difference between Type1 and 2 .
Hi , haven't been on in a while but thought this was place where I'd get most info. Have had diabetes since 1976 , with no complications so far . For last 10 weeks or so I have been feeling naseau for an hour or so at different times of the day every day. About 6 times I have thrown up. Initially , I left it hoping it would pass but after 4 weeks I went to GP. She did find kidney infection and treated it with antibiotics. First course didn't work so had second course of different Ines. She also did pregnancy test , not pregnant.
 
Hba1c is 52. Iron stores are low so have had iron injection. She has done blood test for coeliac in past and it was normal. Awaiting appointment for gastroscope and colonoscopy in April but just wondering has anyone suffered with naseau as a result of diabetes ? All replies appreciated
 
Has there been any change of meds at all?
Any change of other stomach/bowel habits or change in diet?

I can for myself recognise the time of anything changing like nausea, bowel etc as I record absolutely every detail down cos I've had to find my own causes pretty much....

Mine have purely been medicines... been through endless tests that have proved that I have got problems... but eliminating certain drugs and foods has got me back to normal.. (what is normal??-lol!!).
 
Thanks Donnelly dogs , initially I thought it may have been meds I had been on for my back but I had reduced them even before the naseau started and have cut them out altogether now. No new foods or meds besides . Like you I find I have to be an advocate for myself to find problem .
 
Now my chemist did say it could be the glucophage , however having been in them for ten years or so it would be unusual as never had side effects before. If nothing else is showing up that will probably be next step after scopes
 
Have you been referrred to a gastroenterologist?

If you havent and you feel it would help, ask your GP directly. If you have money to pay to be seen privately or have company medical scheme it is worth going private. In UK, even if paying private for initial consultation the consultant can put you back on nhs list to save further costs if having to pay yourself....

Sickness is not normal and needs to be investigated.

Take photos and see if there is any sign of when you ate the food... if it is food you have ate 2 or 3 days ago, this needs investigating with a gastroenteroligist.
 
Gastroenterologist doing the scopes in April . Going private , here in Ireland if I went public I'd be two years on waiting list Just frustrating and not seeing my diabetes team til July

Good, glad you going private. I did that too 5 years ago.. just for the initial appointment. Had already chosen consultant I wanted to see from using Dr Google and GMC website... had all the investigations done before I would have had appt... like you!!

Or at least, thats my experience.

Do make sure you list foods you eat on daily logs for gastro chap... when you get nausea and vomiting.

There are lots of causes. Could be gastrparesis, GERD, POTS, SIBO...etc but needs your insides examined and camerad really.

My nausea was totally cancer tablets. Unfortunately I had to go through endless (needless) tests.... in the end I found out by stopping the cancer tabets due to the other dire side effects..

No cancer, diabetes, stomach person had considered my problems with that aspect of stomach could be straight forward meds.
Hasnt put right other probs but again eliminating what I need to has stopped orher problems.. ie no tomatos or onions in any form at all.

I'm glad you going private.
It is worth it....

Louise, I know that sometimes pharmacies begin to stock different brands of drugs, so whilst you may have been on, say, Glucophage, for some time, is there any possibility the brand might have changed?
 
Thanks Donnellysdogs, hope your feeling better now. TBH with the diabetes I wouldn't be without private health insurance .

No , same tablet all along , I know stocks went low once about 5 years ago and I had to get one week supply of metformin but was back to the original again then . Could be the concoction I'm on for so long I suppose.
 
I could never really get private because having diabetes too young it excluded a lot of illneses they would want to link in to it.

Having suffered 16 months of hell with pain from mastectomy and finalising realising from other flat friends what good help was available in certain CCGs(not mine), we now have sourced private prescription at £90/28days.. NHS Docs were even banned from telling me the option of pain relief unless I had mentioned it. Thanks to flat friends on FB I finally realised there was an option but I had to ask. Consultants not alliwed to tell me!

Paying for certain meds wtc is going to be a way of life!!
I would certainly recommend parents getting their children with private care prior to any health issues that may come along!

Yet, I am ardent advocate of our NHS...

So glad you have private care... you will get better timings and options (sad but true).

Got told this week about NHS HPV vaccine supposedly offering profection to girls for 2 cancers but the private one supposedly offers protection for 7 cancers. Not going to say whether vaccines are dangerous or good etc but NHS staff are not allowed to tell patients about the private alternatives!!

Brands may have changed slightly?? I know my bowel meds have recently from the same manufacturer... could be worth checking with pharmacy?
 
I believe NHS is far superior to our HSE , have spoken to my chemist and he says the tablets I'm on should not be causing the issue , if nothing shows up he advised reducing the glucophage .
 
I suspect that something may show up to be honest..... I hope not but even on that, sometimes knowing that there is a label to whats going on enables us to handle things better!!

I guess you are trying out eliminating certain foods etc .

Please dont worry... thereare some fantastic gastroenterologist around.

I adore mine!!! We get on so well. He has been a positive NHS Person for me when I had a lot of problems with treatment from other consultants.

All ok and tip top now. Put on some weight. Nausea gone. Stomach/bowel more sociable-lol!! And no2 boob removal coming up in Apr too!! All positive from me!
 
Good luck , sounds like you've been through the mill , and me moaning cause I'm feeling sick for a few weeks. Thanks so much for replying and good luck in April
 
Recently finding vitamin D is not helping me feel well. Nausea, trembling. Not conclusive yet. Will keep posting. Supps always cause issues for me. Food is better. No sun here now so not sure how to proceed
