hi please I need some advice. im type 2. my doctor wont prescribe a monitor for me to check sugars. (I pay for prescriptions) I suffer with anxiety and am always on edge not knowing. when I was staying with family for two months due to a family death I used my mums to check my sugars. I was so much more relaxed. where can I buy one from? is that possible? what sort of price am I looking at? making myself ill with not knowing. thankyou

you can get a codefree meter on Amazon, they are cheap and so are the test strips. Hope this helps you
 
I think most self funding diabetics here would also recommend the SD Codefree because of the low price of the test strips. There are also discount codes available if you buy ithese in bulk.

@joshua09 You can buy meters/strips on Amazon or contact manufacturers as they are usually kind enough to send out meters for free as you have to pay for strips and thats where they make their money.

The most reccomended meter here is the SD Codefree from Home health www.homehealth-co.uk.com/

Are you on medication for type two? If so then your prescriptions will bee free on NHS

Joshua. I'm not sure if you are on any medications for your diabetes such as Metformin, if so, do you realise that you don't have to pay for your prescriptions? That includes medications given for any other conditions too. Just thought I'd mention it.

As a Person with Diabetes (PWD) you can get these supplies VAT Free. You will need to register when you place the order.
 
If you are on diabetic med, you fill a form in at your surgery and your doctor signs it's and sends it off and you fill get free med for 5 years.

hi no im not on medication. doctor tried to prescribe it, but ive asked for more time to try and control sugars myself.
 
ok so now ive got a codefree monitor (thanks to those who recommended it) is it safe to load lancet in it ready for next use? its says single use. but when im feeling shakey the last thing I want to be doing is trying to load a lancet in it. just worried it wont be sterile?
 
It will be fine. A lot of us use each lancet a couple of times, and some of us use the same one until it goes blunt!

Lots of us multiuse the lancets, I use them until the jab hurts maybe a week. For disposal I bend the pin of the lancet then put it in my normal rubbish, it's ok to do that

I use my lancet multi, multi times. it is fine provided only you use it, As with hypodermics, do not share your clicker with anyone else without changing the needle. My best friend is T1D, and prone to hypo even during our performance. i have to deal with it for him since when he goes, the lights are on but nobody is at home. So i use my kit since he hides his in among the guitar cases at the back of the stage. i have a duty to make sure I take spare lancets in my kit.
