Hi I'm type 1 diabetic before i go to bed I inject my back ground insuline and I'm reading 7.5 !! When I get up in the morning I retest and I reading 11.4 !! I havnt eaten or drank during the night so y is it Raising !!

Hi, im type 2 so not the perfect person to answer your question, but the liver produces glucose overnight because we are technically fasting and the body decides it will need some glucose for the day ahead, its called a liver dump, hopefully theres a type 1 still up that will know the ins and outs of the effect of this with regards to your insulin

Maybe you are not having a large enough amount of long acting insulin to last over night? Or, you are going low overnight and therefore waking up after the liver has kicked out sugars. If you wake up feeling groggy, with a headache chances are you are having a night time low but sleeping through it

Can someone please answer a question for me I started insulin injections a week ago take 8 units in the morning and through trial and error injection between 4-6 units in the evening over the weekend it injected 4 one night then 5 yesterday DN advised that as sugars still a bit high in the morning on those doses upped to 6 tonight which I did have been advised not to go go bed with blood sugars under 10 so at 21.30 Reading was 8.1 so ate some cream crackers but sugars kept going down so at 22.00 pm had a slice of toasted granary bread and a small amount of orange juice but sugars still going down not up I tested just now and they are 7.6 some advise urgently needed as scared to to ho sleep in case they go even lower . Thanks in advance
