Hello,
My 3 year old son has recently been given a Gluco RX Nexus after being admitted to hospital for a severe hypo and having regular symptoms since January. He is being watched for non-diabetic hypoglycemia and we have a follow up with a paediatrician in December. We took it into his preschool so that they can do his pre and post lunch checks and use it if he's showing symptoms. Which they are more than happy to do as the owner of the preschool is a close friend.
My query is, neither I or the preschool have much experience with this. It's new to both of us. (Un)fortunately one of the teachers has a son with T1 that has the same monitor as my son so she knows how to use it and is familiar with possible symptoms. I have taught the teachers how to use it, given them a sharps box, written and signed a letter confirming why he has to have it done and that they have my permission to do it, made a hypo kit for them, written instructions on what to do in "x" situations, they have stock of medical grade non-latex gloves, the number for his GP and Diabetes nurse, given them a book to log sugars and symptoms in that I check against his monitor and sign every day... I've also filled in one of the schools medical forms.
Is there anything else we have to do? I've requested that all staff get first aid training as currently only 2 staff are trained and I'm talking to our Health Visitor about having the local school nurse visit and talk to staff about hypoglycemia. Any further information would be great.
Thanks,
