Hi
Started Insulin on Tuesday. I have been told to inject 10 units daily of Insuman Basal insulin. I am also supposed to inject Bydureon weekly. But keep getting freaked out by thr needle so have not started that yet. They also prescribed Dapagliflozin 10mg daily. I am worried my sugar reading are remaining high. between 17-21. Is this normal and will they gradually decrease as I keep using Insulin? Is it due to not yet injecting the Bydureon? Just starting to get worried about the high readings. Thanks in advance.

I think it is a combination, you need to start taking the bydureon, as your levels will not stabilize until you do and you will get false readings. Once you have been taking the correct meds you should see an improvement( a significant one after a month as it takes the body that long to assimilate)

Getting the dosage right will take a while, but the insulin will help bring your levels down. Regarding taking the bydureon, the best advice I can give is taken straight from one of my favourite authors (Joe Abercrombie). 'It's better to do it than live with the fear of it.' Difficult to follow, but at the moment the bydureon is making you suffer by causing you to imagine what it's like. Chances are it won't be as bad as you expect.

Hi Jason I started insulin on Wednesday. I am on novomix 30 and I take 15 unit in the morning and I'm the evening. My levels are still very high but there has been a slight improvement. I am also starting low carb but it is difficult. Good luck :)

Cheers everyone, the diabetic nurse at the hospital called me to see how things are going. I told him how freaked out I was with the Bydureon injection. So he calmly talked me though it and I managed to inject. Though it hurt like crazy. He also increased my insulin by 4 units as my levels are still high. So we will see got to call the team next week to see how it goes.
