Type 2 on Metformin - diagnosed 9 months ago. Just started with a Freestyle Libre and after 2 days with fbg of 4 and max of 12.5 (2 hours after meals), moved to a low carb diet on the third day. Now fbg is highest in the morning at 7.2, going down during the day to 4.5 with max of 7.5 (2 hours after meals) after 3 days on low carb diet.

Can anyone please advise why I am getting a high fbg in the mornings on a low carb diet?

You don't say for how long you've been taking the Metformin, which in itself can initially take several days to become fully effective and help give a good overall diabetic control.
The change in diet to a low carb is obviously having good effect and the morning readings after the night time fasting period are quite normal as the body is dumping out it's stored Glucose for the start of the day.
If you get time it's worthwhile reading everything you can on the 'Morning Phenomena' which will tell you the reasons for this very common occurrence.
