Type of diabetes
Type 2
I have been diagnosed Type 2 for about 5 years now, and have never really had things under control. I was diagnosed late after diabetes had really taken hold, even though I had been going to my GP regularly with problems, they had never tested for diabetes!

I have been going through a tremendous amount of stress lately, and have been as low as it's possible to get, but today, I feel slightly more motivated, and want to do something about my diabetes.

I have to inject insulin, and rarely test, as it's always so high, and I feel such a failure. Nothing I seem to do helps, and lately I have had problems walking due to severe arthritis in my knee, so weight is piling on. I have an appointment coming to see a specialist soon.

How can I start to make a difference to my high blood sugars?. I have been injecting about 50 mil of insulin once a day at night, but this is clearly not enough. Can I inject twice a day, or increase my insulin myself?

Well done you for deciding to take control, it's never too late. Stress will raise your numbers.

You need to test, fasting and before and after meals. Keep a food diary including portion amounts.

If you are really high, don't be discouraged at your numbers, treat it as an education. I comment on insulin because I don't use it, but people who follow LCHF have reduced it or no longer need it. You will get loads of support from this site.

Order those test strips asap and good luck.

Your question about insulin can only be answered by those HCPs looking after your treatment - however - as a fellow type two, I wonder if you are eating so many carbs that you are overrunning the ability of the insulin to deal with them.
I know that the advice given is to eat normally - but the modern diet with all its sugar and starch is not normal for Humans.
You should be given testing strips etc - please get into the habit of testing and responding to results - high BG and injecting insulin are both going to have significant impact on your health and well being.
