Hello everyone
I need help. Been T2 for eight years. Started off ok after getting over the shock of being diagnosed, had it under control with SR Met. Then lost control went on to insulin. Just recovering after two year battle which has resulted in serious nerve damage, eye and organ damage. Went on check up yesterday at hospital received blood test results of hbca1c of 110 just told to increase insulin and contact gp.This reading can't be correct can it? Blood sugars never drop below 12 and go as high as 28. I'm so worn out with it all, everything I seem to do does not help. What do you guys eat on a daily basis to control your sugars. I've been an avid reader of the forum, but never taken part please help me.

Yep, it could be correct. If your BS go as high as 28, that's seriously high. Even 12 is unacceptable.

OK .... now we know your HBA1C, what is your diet? That is step one.

Hi Crystal Ball
Welcome to the forum:)

110 = 12.2% in old system and pretty much sounds like it is close to your meter readings.

Mike has asked the most relevant question.

what do you eat. typical daily menu would be great
Once we can have a look at that some suggestions and or substitutes could possibly help in lowering your levels.

Hi and welcome to the forum. Sounds like you have had a really rough time of things.

Depending on what diet you follow, food might be the thing to change and maybe try and add some excercise if not already part of your routine.

@daisy1 will be able to provide the excellent information for new members which is worth a good read through.

Have a good look around and ask whatever you like. An idea of a normal days food would help members be able to make any suggestions.

Sure the excellent advice and support will help you

Sorry forgot to reply to second question I'll get used to this..... I take novo mix 18 units am and 12 units pm. I have tried the Gi route, low carb diet, now on the no carbs. A typical day is 2 eggs am, lunch is light salad, eve meal is chicken, fish with veg, salad, I don't eat a lot . I think I could do more exercise buts it's differcult when you have not got the energy. Just these few comments from you all, has given me some fresh ideas, so thank you. I won't give up like last time.

Just a quick question I don't understand some of the points you are raising, what is a liver dump ! And basal test ! Never heard of these.

For liver dump, do a search (top right of screen) ... there are a multitude of answers to that very question :)

One of the many functions of the liver is to store sugars in a form called glycogen.
In a normal metabolism, after a meal BG rises, the pancreas makes the hormone insulin and the liver takes out the glucose and converts it to a medium term energy store as glycogen.
When BG drops, the liver then converts the glycogen back to glucose and "dumps" it into the blood stream.

Most T2 diabetics have livers that do not respond well to insulin. Your case is more complex and goes beyond my knowledge of biology. If you are having insulin injections it could be that your pancreas is not working as well as it should.

Good explanation of basal bolus here http://www.diabetes.co.uk/insulin/basal-bolus.html
"A basal-bolus injection regimen involves taking a number of injections through the day.

A basal-bolus regimen, which includes an injection at each meal, attempts to roughly emulate how a non-diabetic person’s body delivers insulin.

A basal-bolus regimen may be applicable to people with type 1 and type 2 diabetes.

What is a basal-bolus insulin regimen?

A basal-bolus routine involves taking a longer acting form of insulin to keep blood glucose levels stable through periods of fasting and separate injections of shorter acting insulin to prevent rises in blood glucose levels resulting from meals.

What is basal insulin?

The role of basal insulin, also known as background insulin, is to keep blood glucose levels at consistent levels during periods of fasting"

I hope this is useful.
Best wishes

Your diet sounds OK. I'd stick with it, but be trying to find out more about your condition which is more complex than simple T2 or T1

Best wishes

Hi Adam

Thanks for the information and advice, it's very helpful. Like I said its given me fresh ideas and inspiration. Had small amount porridge for breakfast and then did exercise so let's see what the next reading will be. Thanks again.

Hi. Thanks for the BMI info. If you low-carb this should come down as well as blood sugar. If you still have high blood sugar with a normal BMI then you may want to discuss moving to the Basal/Bolus insulin regime where you have a 24 hr (Basal) insulin and a rapid (Bolus) one for meals. With this you then carb-count for meals rather than having more carbs then you need to match fixed mixed carb shots. Be aware that as you reduce your carbs you may need to reduce you mixed insulin shots to avoid hypos.

Hi Daibell

Thanks for all the information it is much appreciated. I have had a reasonable day today, with blood sugars coming down after exercise and two hours after eating so that's a good start. I suppose I have got to find my own way with regards what's good to eat and what's not, I've started testing sugar levels more to see what spikes. Have a good evening all.
