Where to start lol. Into my third week of lower carbs and fewer calories to help with my newly diagnosed T2 and I need a guide of how low to go down with carbs and how many calories to eat. My fitness pal says 1200 for a steady 2lb loss
My BG was 14-18 when first started fasting and now are 8-8.9 but I need to up my game to get that way down.
If I follow LCHF what is the ratio ? I brought cream and brie but am so scared to use it as I see these foods as weight gain foods( please don't laugh) If I followed the Atkins way of eating minus their shakes and bars would I be on the right track ?????? Where can I get a low carb receipes book. There's so much I want to ask but I think I need to follow a sound meal plan for a number of weeks to get me on the right track.
Sorry it's all a bit of a ramble

Hello @Amandamc2711 have you had a look at the thread, low carb what have you eaten today to see what other people eat in a day. Also the low carb recipes on this website are good. :)

Thanks Squire have just ordered the book, just what I need to visually get my head around this new way of eating. Got the information needed from the calculator but it won't let me lose 2lb a week which is my aim

Hey Amanda.Firstly well done on getting your BG levels down so well in three weeks.I would really concentrate on this firstly and maybe let the weight loss come to you as it will with LCHF.

This is the place to be for support,so stick with us.The most important thing is to get the carbs down.If you can get below 30 g a day you should go into Ketosis. Then your body will be burning up fat.To stop feeling hungry you will need to eat good unprocessed fats, this is to replace the now redundant carbs. So cheese, butter, cream, olive oil, avocado, bacon pate etc and always full fat versions of say yoghurt as the reduced fat ones have more sugar!! So I know it takes a bit of getting your head around but don't be afraid of natural fat,as a diabetic it turns out it's good for you,who knew?
Check out the low carb recipes and there is a great thread "what have you eaten today" great for ideas.
You will soon become an expert carb counter, so supermarket shopping takes a lot longer,as does cooking from scratch, but it really is the way forward.
Have a look at the success stories thread for inspiration.
Above all else stick around here with all of us.It can take a little while to get your BG to near normal as you may have Glycogen stored in your muscles and liver.Took me about three months.
Well done

Thanks Redsnapper. My head feels a little overloaded at the minute and I didn't get great advice from doctors but there's too much evidence on here that LCHF works . I'm taking the plunge with those fats but will be keeping a check on amount of calories .

Forget calories for the first few weeks.. just try and eat low carb high fat see if you feel hungry (you very probably won't) if the weight doesn't fall off then worry about calories but I'd be surprised if it didn't.

Bulkbiker I'm a little worried that in the past I've over eaten as I don't seem to get the signs of feeling full, even though that seems to have changed this last couple of weeks. I was always hungry which I think is linked to the Diabetes.

Hi Amanda. I'm doing my own version of Atkins and am eating under 20g of carbs a day and I know just how you feel.
It feels so wrong to be eating foods that are high in calories or fat because it goes against everything we have been told.
As long as you count the carbs only though, it will work for you.

It worked for me as I lost quite a bit of weight when I went LCHF.I had a few conversations with, let's call them expert dieters!! They just could not get their heads round what I was telling them, and that cheesy scrambled egg and bacon was a good breakfast.Shoulda seen their faces when they first asked me how I had lost the weight.People are totally addicted to carbs and they don't even know it.
But if you stick with it you will get there. As said previously the most important thing is to get your BG down and most of the rest like weight, blood pressure, cholesterol should improve too.
And don't forget excersise even if only a brisk 15 minute walk, this helps a lot.

Cheers
