Hi All
Hope someone can help me. I am due to GP in the next couple of weeks and due to my horrible HBA1C I am 100% sure he will advise i go on insulin. This freaks me out for a lot of reasons - mainly the weight gain..i do not need to add more to the multiple stones I already have.

Reading some topics that have appeared about insulin resistance and liver dumping glucose on low carbing, i am thinking that probably i do not have much option other than going on insulin. Also i am hoping that maybe in a couple of years I can try and get pregnant, so i have about 1 1/2 to drastically improve my BG.

There are alot of different names of insulin mentioned and i have no idea what they do....some people seem to have their bg's all over the place when they are on insulin...i wish i could go to the GP and if he mentions insulin, maybe try and give some opinion as to what i want etc rather than be completely in the dark.

I do not know what confidence i can place that insulin would be the right path. i really cant afford to put on more weight...

i would really really appreciate it if either i can be redirected to a post etc (this place is really a huge minefield :) ) or if i can have some experience of people who are on insulin and the types they are on....

i am very confused and it is a bit overwhelming....

thanks everyone!

My non expert Type 2 view is going on insulin will allow you to get good control of your BG's and so long as you continue trying to do the healthy lifestyle thing that you've obviously been trying so hard to do then there is no reason that you should put on weight. I wouldn't worry too much about the mechanics of it all until it gets explained to you by your doc.

The danger comes from going on insulin and then using it as an excuse to eat the wrong things as yes very simplistically you go to a position whereby you can cover the amount of carbs you eat by upping the amount of insulin you inject. So if you eat the wrong things and put on weight then you get fatter and need more insulin to cover the same amount of carbs the next time.

Put your T2 brain back in gear at that point. At the moment you try not to eat bad things for two primary reasons. Firstly they will give you dangerous levels and secondly you'll put on weight and run higher risks of heart attacks, strokes etc. To counter those you have to adopt a disciplined view on your life. "Man up" (or "woman up" in your case) to the situation which is what you have done and that is brilliant.

As an insulin user the same psychological things kind of apply. You have to control what you eat because that is a good way of maintaining stable BG's on an insulin regime. If you are unstable you are no different to a T2 who eats the wrong things and gets bad BG's. Even though you could eat loads of carbs and cover with insulin you will put on weight and risk heart attacks and strokes etc.

So my view Claudette is if you keep doing what you're doing now and keep the same positive mindset that you've shown you'll do great!

Thanks xyzzy

I really appreciate your answer.... i ll have to wait and see...maybe i ll suggest trying to getting it down as i am...maybe i can start the gliclazide again...and then if it does not work i will start the insulin.... got some thinking to do
