Hi,

It a bit of a dilemma like many more during this Covid19 pandemic.

My partner & I are type 2 diabetics - Im on tablets, he is on tablets & insulin, we are both over 60 years old.

He works in London for a private ambulance company so in/out of London hospitals all day and cannot practise "social distancing" from his work partner or his patients. We both feel this is very risky given his age and health issue but are unsure on what to do as the only 2 choices we have are;
1. continue as you are in job & probably get the virus, both of us(I always have chest infections after something as simnple as a common cold)
2. Leave the job and cant pay mortgage or bills.

Its an awful dilemma and causing us much stress, as he enjoys his job and wants to help, but he feels he with be at risk himself and to patients if he continues. Im self employed and my job has stopped dead overnight.

What would you do in this situation?

Thanks
Gill

Hi,
Looks like you haven't had any replies to this. Have you had any advice from your partner's line manager/boss?
Hope you're both well!

I have to say that if I was you're partners boss I would tell him to, 'get out of the firing line immediately.'
Presume the boss knows?
Speak to mortgage company?? Bank for a temporary loan?
Whichever, this may literally be a case of your money or your life.

See if your partner can be reassigned to a non frontline role eg training new recruits/volunteers, telephone enquiries, other desk jobs. Ensure they wear as much ppe as they can, like masks and gloves, even if it is 'beyond' the guidance of his Trust/employer. Ensure they strip clothing and shower immediately on returning home. If is too traumatic, they need to ask for special or sick leave for a few months. Good luck!
