Need some advice please ?

I'm newly diagnosed, following an emergency unrelated hospital admission. BG on admission was 22.
I've invested in a meter and am taking readings every two hours but I don't seem to be able to get my BG down into normal levels unless I give up eating altogether. This morning for breakfast I had black coffee and a handful of almonds. BG was 8 at 2 hours later. 2 hours after a lunch of raw carrot, celery and satsumas my BG was 11. I've lost nearly 4 kg so far so I love the low carb diet, but just how much food have I got to give up to get this back into normal ranges? I've been anorexic and it would be just too easy to go there again. Advice please? Metformin 500 x2 per day

Have you been tested for type one and had everything else eliminated? also are you on any other meds (diabetic or not..)

I wasn't aware there were different tests. They did a 3 month history test hb1 thingy which came back as 76 , so it's been high as long as I've been having chemotherapy. All the drugs stopped on 6th jan, except for the IV antibiotics they gave me during my recent hospital admission.
