Since being diagnosed with type 1 almost 2 years ago, I have managed to put back on all the weight that I had lost and can't seem to get the motivation to eat more healthily and exercise. The amount of rubbish I am eating and units of insulin I am having to give myself is just ridiculous and I could therefore really do with some advice and any diet suggestions to help me get back on track. I am aware of the types of food I should be eating but could almost do with a diet plan, so I have something to follow. I am just under 5,5 and about 3 stone over weight. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!!!! Thanks in advance.

also -- just had a read of an earlier thread of your which mentions carb counting.

with your work and study schedule I am thinking you haven't yet been on a DAFNE course.

here is a link to an online carb counting course you can do in your spare  time.

I feel the same way about losing and gaining weight cycles, hard to bear. You just have to find a way to make a type of diet as a a part of your life style, but loving to eat carbs and lack of motivation is a killer.

Exercising daily, changing to a healthy diet, and finding a way to keep yourself motivated at all times are the key, but how to achieve them is like solving a space math equation!

There are many motivational speeches about diets, diets for diabetics, healthy living and such at TED and TEDx talks on YouTube. Watch them for starters. They helped me a lot.

I'm a lifelong yoyo dieter (and am now n my 60s), so when I was diagnosed with T2 in May and told that diet and exercise were going to be my treatment, I knew this was going to mean a final facing up to the diet problems, including binge eating. So at the moment I'm focusing on the do's and don'ts of habit-changing as much as anything else - with some small but significant successes. For me, it's the psychology and behaviour change that's important. Do you see it as that for you?

This is one article I like: http://zenhabits.net/the-habit-change-cheatsheet-29-ways-to-successfully-ingrain-a-behavior/

Willow85, i can reccomend a good book by dr richard bernstein: diabetes explained 4th edition,he is diabetic t1 himself for 50 yrs now, but he has helped millions understand how to use insulin correctly and how to eat for bs's control.

In your local diabetes team, do you have access to someone like a dietician? For a while, it might help to have some specialist support, to get you back onto some sort of track where you can manage on your own.
