Hey not been on for a while because I didn't want to become annoying as you have all been so amazing.
Last time I was on I posted about my loss of taste and that I had had an MRI and they said everything was fine just a fluid sac was found, I had a second MRI with contrast and that showed no enhancement and was passed as normal. Okay why am I worried well I have been having flashing lights in eyes and they are just getting worse.
If someone could just read this and offer some advice I would be so grateful ( Lazybones as been amazing with this as was Dibbles with my MRI )
Okay here goes I have these flashes of light in my eyes and have bee back and forth to eye causality many times they say the back of my eyes is fine.
My eyes more one than the other is painful . I had an eye test a few weeks ago and the opticion said my eye pressure was fine on Saturday I went to eye casuality with the pain and flashing and again was told the eye pressure was normal.
Just two days later I had an appointment with the Clinic eye Dr as I have something called folds he looked in the back of my eyes and said everything looks healthy and he isn't worried and will see me in six months ??? But he said my eye pressure was borderline and now I am so worried I just didn't know what to say as I had told him how scred I am.
My husband was there and he says the Dr wasn't worried at all and he also said the field test I had done was fine.
Now even when I close my eyes I see spots and some flashes something my husband says is pretty normal, he thinks I need to calm down.
My last BG test was in normal range and I have another in November I also get awful head pressure and the feeling of pressure behind my eyes is awful I feel sick with it.
Please guys I know there is a lot of info here but any advice would be good I can't keep going back and forth to the Drs and I am at my wits end I saw two eye Drs in three days and I am so worried about my eye pressure now x

It might be a migraine, visual disturbance is common and you can get these without the headache.

I get the migraine visual aura frequently, often leaves me exhausted and a feeling of pressure behind my eyes and sinuses. I am 'lucky' in that I only occasionally get the headaches too, and these have only just started in last few years.

The visual aura disturbs my vision to various extents, most times its annoying but doesn't stop me doing anything, other times its so bad I need to go into a dark room and rest until it clears.

Have a look at symptoms and see if you think it might be this (took me about 18 years to work out what I had as didn't get the headaches at all in early days).

Hi!
I get this and it is very terrifying. I also get aura migraine and it could well be linked. My migraine aura differ slightly from when I experience what u r explaining.

Before I was diagnosed I was having terrible flashing in my eyes, and was going to the doctor about migraines which is why they nearly missed my diabetes.

The flashing I experienced was literally like someone was flashing a strobe light in my face, and would last hours. Visible also in the light. And it felt like pressure.

Then I was eventually diagnosed and the flashing and weird stuff disappeared once my blood sugar came down. It only now comes back when I get a migraine or when my blood sugars are high.

So my question is, what levels have your blood sugars been running at?

Thank you so much x as far as I know my BG is now in the normal range and it gets checked again in November . I think I am scaring myself with so many thoughts of what is it and am I going blind. My Father like me was deaf and he had a fear of going blind that seems to have been passed down the generations. I am trying to remind myself that at least four Drs can't all be wrong and they don't want to see me for six months .

Maybe your sugars spiked briefly. Try not to panic, it's a scary feeling but if 4 doctors have cleared you you must be ok :)

Thank you that's what my husband keeps saying x he doesn't want to see me for six months so I guess he can't be that worried but your right it is a scary feeling xx

Has a gp actually suggested migraine. Have you tried a migraine tablet when these occurences happen?

Hi no they have just said my eyes look fine when they have looked at them. I have seen at least 4 eye drs and the only thing they did say was on one occasion my eye pressure was a little raised but again he said he wasnt worried x the pressure in my head and I know it's sounds daft but if I touch my head it feels like the pressure is about to explode and boy does it make me feel sick .

Could be a migraine or that you've gone higher on blood sugar recently.
U could go to pharmacy in the mean time and ask them to check ur blood sugar and buy some migraleve (contains codeine and anti-sickness so might have to ask if ok for diabetes)
:)

Thank you taken my bloods twice today and both times it was okay. Guess I am finding it hard because I am scred stiff but because the Dr told me and my husband there was nothing wrong at the back of the eye my husband thinks I should remember that but it is scaring me to death and after all the drs I have seen I am stuck xx

Yep it's a scary thing when ur eyes go funny!
Could it be stress? The more you worry the more prone to migraines u might be.

Have you had any large amounts of carbs or sugars in the last week where u may have briefly gone high?

You could go to an optician too if you're still worried.

I also find that if I turn the light off too fast it causes the flashers. I have to close my eyes first, wait a couple of seconds, keep eyes closed then cover my eyes, wait, then keep eyes closed and covered and turn off the light. sometimes if I have the flashers and do this a couple of times it 'resets' my vision

My sugers when I have taken them seem stable Hun when I was diagnosed in may my three month test was 74 but my last one was 35 so I don't know what to think x I have seen an eye DR who couldn't find anything so I just don't know , it as helped to know you have experienced it too.

Sorry, but I can't add any more to what the others have said. Please don't stress, all those doctors have said nothing to worry about. I hope you feel better soon.

Hi there. I'm so sorry you are worrying. Esp with your sight. I agree with all the above.
What you are describing is classic migraine aura prodomal symptoms. Lots of people suffer with this and whilst not nice at all it isn't always due to the eye symptoms. Also not helpful I know. But the more you stress about it ( and raise your blood pressure). The worse the symptoms. Lots of meds out there to help. Just ask your Gp. Hope this helps

If your doc confirms it is migraine, try B2, co-enzyme Q10 and magnesium supplements with their approval - they have all been shown to reduce migraine frequency in medical studies.

I take 'em and now have maybe 1 migraine a year, rather than the 2+ a month I used to suffer - although I'm getting older and lots of peeps grow out of migraine as they age!

Hi guys went to GP he sent me to eye casuality after a day there still no clear answer they looked in the back of them and then did a scan all looked okay.
Only thing she said was my eye pressure was borderline but then she said it was normal range xx

I get the migraine aura, flashing lights, when my blood sugars are low, and did years before the diabetes diagnosis too.
I was looking at the thread @Brunneria wrote on this the other day, about reactive hypoglycaemia and it leading to diabetes, and thinking 'that was me'. Sorry, wandering a bit there ;)
I wonder if you're getting 'lows' because of the hard dieting and maximum control you've gained over the diabetes? Just a thought. xx Debs

Hey Hun thank you x I havnt been able to come on much of late my iPad is slowly dying.
Well I got my second MRI result and it says there was no enhancement so they reported it as normal.
I think my health ( I know you will get this ) as taken a battering this year and I don't know if I am Arther or Martha !!
They did an eye scan today nothing showing there I am worried about my eye pressure she said it was borderline but still normal .
I dunno it's odd but I have the flashing and pain in my eye with the most horrible feeling of head pressure xx you know me keep thinking its this little fluid sac but they discharged me xx

I'm another migraine sufferer, and what you describe is very similar to what I go through.

I normally feel run down, fidgety and like the air is too heavy around me for a day or two before hand. I know the full migraine will start about 30 - 60 minutes after the aura starts. The aura varies for me, some times flashing purple of yellow lights almost like looking at light bulbs being turned on and off. Other times my vision mists over, I'm sure you have all seen a car windscreen defrost, starts with a small clear patch that slowly grows until the whole windscreen in clear, I get that in reverse in my eyes, the first few times it was terrifying (I think I was just into my teens when they started) I can end up virtually blind. Then the pressure starts, like some one has put a giant elastic band around my head about level with my eyes. Finally the pain starts, it feels like some one is driving spikes into my head pounding them in with a hammer.

There are migraine relief tablets available and it is worth taking them as soon as you notice the symptoms. Most of the specialist tablets are based on Ibuprofen so if you can take that it is worth having it in if you don't want to use the specialist tablets.

Migraines are scary, and don't let any one suggest that it is just a headache, they are much more than that.

The Wife gets migraines and says it sounds like how you feel . Sometimes she looses her vision completely for a short time in the run up to the head pain of the migraine.. Flashing lights, disturbed vision and massive pain behind her eyes are all in the run up. None of the over the counter med's work .. Prescription meds are also not able to help. She has to get to bed with a cool pillow over her head and a bucket by her side untill the migraine has run its corse.
Hope this helps
Edit to add .. migraine Is totally diffrent to a headache.. She can still function with a headache.. But a migraine will floor her completely sometimes for as long as a few days. Muscle relaxer tablets did help but she is not happy with the side effects
