Hi all,

just wondering... what is the smallest size needle you can get? i currently use 5mm and i do try to rotate all my injection sites but its still sore when i inject in my stomach and get bright blue bruises on my legs! im quite skinny still as i only put on a bit of weight since i was dianogsed and weighed 8'3 so i still need a very small needle. i got switched from 7mm to 5mm and still hurts when i inject most of the time and is making me very fed up as i just want it over and done with :)

Have you tried the buttocks? I am like a matchstick and have similar problems but the buttocks give the least feel to the needle. A little awkward to do yourself but definitely the best. Also are you throwing the needle in? The quicker it goes in the least painful it is. 5mm 31g are the smallest I've found.

looks like i have the smallest... and yes i've tried the back side, but find it equally as painful as i cant quite get it at a 90 degree angle so it sometimes nicks me when i try it.. and sometimes i blees after an injection and sometimes i dont. i also find it hurts less when you do it swiftly but sometimes i try and it hurts even worse! and believe me i'm not the kind to cry at a scratch and it doesnt hurt so bad i cant do it, just thought if there was a smaller needle i could have then it would just make it more comfortable for me :) but thank anyway guys as always your brill :)

ooh, now that is it a good idea. quite often ill go to inject somewhere and have to change my mind as its a hurtful sting.. ive been told this is where i hit scar tissue from where ive injected before... i shall ask about it though. thanks v.much x

Hi Ebony,
You should be able to find Emla anesthetic cream at your chemist and your Dr should also be able to prescribe it. I got some for my son when he went through a painful stage of injecting, it kinda worked, but we found you had to apply it about 20mins before to let it take effect. Everyones different and you may find it really helps,
Good luck,
Suzi x

Interesting thread for me, but what about the bruising? am I doing something wrong coz I'm getting quite a few bruises when I use my stomach for injections and some if I use my legs?

it's very common for bruising to occur when injecting in the stomach. Try using your arms or the side of your bum. Sometimes pushing the needle in slowly causes less trauma than pushing it in fast.
