Hi everyone I’m looking for some reassurance, Im 23 and I’ve had type 1 diabetes for around 5 years. Around a week ago today I had tingling that came on suddenly in my left foot and calf, sometimes I can feel it in my other leg and foot too and sometimes it shifts to my back or arms sometimes I can feel even a buzzing through my whole body but mainly it’s in my left leg, I also sometimes feel twinges and heat in my leg even sometimes in my thigh I have extreme high anxiety right now, it’s consuming me which I think is making the symptoms worse. I don’t have any pain, no numbness I can still feel sensations and heat and cold. Movement eases it instantly and when I’m not thinking much about it or I’m walking / doing daily activities it seems to fade. I’ve been to drs and they’ve ordered MRI on the spine. Im extremely worried and never experienced anxiety like this, could anyone maybe share there symptoms what they first had so I can compare? Thankyou im sorry that this post is so long.

Hi @Rochelle Benn

Sorry you are going through such an anxious time. I have no personal experience of the symptoms you have, so can’t offer any advice.
I just want to welcome you, and check a few things that could make it simpler for our members to understand more of your situation.

How well controlled is your diabetes?
Has your doctor ordered any blood tests , or other investigations , or just the MRI?
Are you on any medication apart from your insulin?

Hi @Pipp, thankyou I do feel like my nervous system is just on overload at the minute,

My last hba1c was 58 I believe. my diabetes is fairly well controlled, although I do admit sometimes it could be better, recently it has been really good though. And no my doctor has just ordered the MRI she seemed to think it was too early to book anything as it had only been 5 days since the symptoms started, she said it’s less likely to be neuropathy as everything else was fine and no I’m on no other medication just insulin.

Hi @Rochelle Benn and welcome to the forum.
I'm a Type 2 and am fortunate that I have never experienced neuropathy (diabetic or otherwise) but even if I had, we aren't allowed to diagnose in this forum since it could be very wrong.
Please consult your Health Care Professionals.

It is good that you have consulted your doctor, who seems to be proactive in seeking a diagnosis, and solution.
as my moderator colleague @ianf0ster had pointed out, our members are not allowed to diagnose. Though if any have had something similar they could provide info from their own experience.

I hope you can get some clarity from your medical team, soon.
As for the MRI, I have had several, and they are easy. I just had to relax on a sliding bed platform, and let the machine do the magic. The only thing I noticed was a lot of noisy clunking sounds.

Hi @Rochelle Benn speaking to a few people on here there are a lot of different experiences people have. I can share my experience. This is still fairly new to me.

It effects my extremities just hands and feet.
This winter it became noticeable. waking up in the middle of the night with my feet so cold it felt my mattress was made out of ice.
And that's where it started, cold feet at nigh and during the day to the point that they felt painfully cold although they were not cold to the touch. They did become more sensitive putting on, or taking of, socks became an almost painful sensation.

This sensation moved to my hands, defiantly cold to the touch never to the point of being painful though. Over sensitivity on the back of my hands, drying them on a towel or taking them out of a pocket feels like dragging them across a rough surface like sandpaper not something that should be soft to the touch.

This was eventually followed by the skin on my hands and arm feeling antsy.
I experience a feeling of short, sharp, painful, electric shocks being passed through my feet.

All these symptoms are worse at night. :meh:
Oversensitivity to touch can be an indication of nerve damage.

I don't know if that helps at all.
It's just my experience.
:bag:
