Type 2 Neuropathy pain

It's 3.45 a.m. and for around the fifth time tonight I have been woken by the neuropathy pains in my feet. I am at my wits end. The pain varies, always worse at night, but tonight it is almost unbearable, like someone smashing my toes every couple of minutes. Ordinary pain meds don't help, and the cream I use usually is doing nothing tonight. Can anyone help, please?

Hi Indy51, just read an article on DPN cocktail, very interesting. I did try ALA for a few weeks, but gave up as it did nothing (on its own) and it was expensive. I am seeing my GP Monday, so will take the recommended article with me. Right now I have smothered my feet in Perskindol and wrapped them in clingfilm - the last resort when they are really painful - and the pain is easing slightly! Hopefully enough for me to go back to sleep. Thank you.

I am seeing my GP Monday, so will take the recommended article with me. It is so torturing, my mothers suffers so much from it she is on gabapentin in which some can go very high and on adding morphine pills when it is at its worst..

The R-alpha-lipoic-acid is said to help many, but one has to go for a very high dose 600mg and especially the R-type are the effective kind, and the dose must be around 600mg a day or up till 800mg a day, it takes at least 3 weeks to work optimal.
the cheeapest place I buy it is in a german pharmacie here is a link, it doesn´t cost much to send to GB if one buy for more than 50 Euro.(42 £). the page is in english and they are very reliable, I have bought from this pharmacie like 20 times takes like 5 days to get the stuff... here is the link :

I have bad neuropathy in my leg and have tried all the prescribed medication gabapentin, pregablin, Duloxetine and amiltripline none of which helped and the side effects on Duloxetine were terrible. I also have tried ALA and gave up after 6 weeks as made no difference.
Recently I was prescribed codeine for rheumatic pain in my knee and I could not believe I have had great results in my neuropathy being pain free for some of the day . These painkillers are very addictive so told I could only have a months supply so need to have a chat with my doctor.

Connie, I was prescribed all those pain drugs over a period of abut 8 years, and it was only last year I realised that it a those drugs that were responsible for an anxiety disorder that was ruining my life. I stopped taking them, and the withdrawals were horrendous - I thought my husband was going to section me. To anyone on those drugs who are thinking of coming off DON'T go cold turkey - please, taper slowly. I hope it's OK to say this, but there is an excellent FB group called Lyrica Survivors which is a fabulous community who give great advice to people on these GABA drugs.

nannoo_bird, I'm so sorry to hear this. Do you apply FMT or massage? This can relieve the pain. Take a look at this video:
