Type of diabetes
Type 2
Treatment type
Tablets (oral)
I've been type 2 since 2003 and over the years i have had regular yearly foot checks. I started by saying that my big toes had a tingling in them and every year they have got worse and its spread to my whole foot with no response from the doctor when i mention it. I have it bad in my hands too but i have Acupuncture regularly and she can keep it comfortable. Not the case with my feet, they burn, are red and tingle all the time and i feel like i'm walking on sponge. I trip more and walking is painful. I keep seeing adverts on Facebook for cream, tablets and shoes. Do any of these things work? i don't trust these adverts and since you cannot get to see a doctor these days i thought i would ask those who are experiencing the same thing as me before parting with any money. Thank you

ask your Pharmacist (they will probably say you need to see a Dr/diabetic nurse) but they will advise on creams etc

Ask to be referred to a diabetic specialist team, I was sent for nerve induction tests which showed neuropathy. Only control can slow it, I've been type one and suffer this since late it's. Pregabolin I found is best.

I have recently been diagnosed with neuropathy in my feet. None of the Drs I’ve seen (GP, vascular surgeon or neurologist) understand why I’ve got it as my HbA1cs have been in the 30s for 8 years. I’m to have blood tests next week to look at other things like Vitamin B 12 deficiency. I have just literally yesterday started on Pregabalin for the pain.

take it you've started off with a low dosage or switched over from gabapentin? takes a few weeks for it to build up in system. You can usually go upto 300mg twice a day (morning and evening) if necessary sending hugs. ps careful if get any constipation.. might need something to assist with bowel movements.

Thanks for this info. Yes I’ve started on 75mg twice a day, go back to GP in a month to see if an increase is needed. (I have been on low dose amitriptyline for years for something else but have stopped that now as can’t take them both together.)

2-3 weeks should be enough time to of passed at regular intervals try ensure your taking at the same time each day if possible (10-14 hour window between) eating with food will help with any possible constipation issues, something nice and high in fibre. if get constipation senna appeared to work a lot better than laxido did, senna should also cause slightly less of a spike... (maltodextrin is used with both laxatives). Maybe worth trying a distration method sometime perhaps TENS machine, they are relatively cheap (and can also be prescibed) good for daytime or in between the pregablin doses if necessary although not too sure if could help particularly with feet... i use tens for lower back.

@Rachox I have just posted something about my high Lipoprotein (a) results . There are a number of issues high Lp(a) levels cause, amongst them it can also cause reduced lower body circulation which may cause
peripheral neuropathy. You may find it interesting

walking is painful
For me it feels like I'm walking on leggo.

@Lyndylou7815 you say the Doctor just passes over this when you mention it? Diabetic Neuropathy is serious, you must not allow them to ignore you. I would suggest making a appointment with your GP to specifically discuss this issue. Then they can not skip over it, make yourself heard.

I am no an expert in Facebook advertising practices but I doubt they are advertising anything of real benefit.

Diabetic neuropathy shoes from what I've read so far, are biased on the simple premise that a well fitting comfortable pair of shoes wont aggravate the condition. Makes perfect sense some genius has figured out tight fitting uncomfortable shoes will aggravate the condition and thus can charge more for them. :meh:

I have shoes that are less comfy that others and they do aggravate things. :banghead:
:bag:
