I hope some one can help or point me in the right direction. I am T2 diagnosed around 15 years ago I have 2 brothers who are also T2 one is an amputee (leg) It is valid to say that in the past 10 years due to my work I have moved around a lot and have experienced several different Gp surgeries, my current one is the worst ever and I have no confidence in them. I joined this surgery last August 2012 and had a cursory examination by the diabetic nurse consisting mainly (well exclusively) of weight blood pressure blood tests and medical history. I have a history of chronic neuropathy but my feet were not examined. My blood results indicated that I needed to go on insulin and after a 10 minute explanation my prescription was duly ordered and arrived but no needles! This was eventually resolved and I nervously administered my first injection. 3 months later everyone was happy with my repeat bloods and that was it I was on my own. My neuropathy worsened and I went back to see the nurse still no foot examination but I was referred to the podiatrist at my insistence, it had been a year since I last saw one. I visited and was asked how often my feet were checked I replied as written above and I was told there was nothing more that could be done but that they would write to my GP to recommend going to a pain clinic during all this time I received no pain relief. I had been prescribed 75mg of Amitriptyline to be taken at night but after a number of years suffered from horrible side effects which caused me to scream my lungs out and attack my husband when I was asleep so I slowly came off them with the nurses knowledge (I was never offered a GP consultation) In the last couple of months I have been feeling really unwell and after a telephone consultation went for blood test which confirmed vitamin D deficiency and I was give tablets for it. One month on I feel so ill and finally saw a doctor she is now referring me to a rheumatologist! If I may I will describe my symptoms. I am bloated and have gained 16 lbs since last August my hands and feet are so swollen I had to have my wedding ring cut off my shoes are very tight my feet are agony bright red and burning I get shooting pains throughout the day and night I have numbness in my toes and spreading up my calves. My hands have pins and needles in them I keep burning my fingers because I can't feel them properly I am so tired I fall asleep every couple of hours, I cannot work. If I walk more that 200 yards I suffer all day and night for it my bloods are typically 7/8. I am still on no pain relief apart from over the counter Paracetamol. My Doctors seem indifferent I am not assertive but I am frightened my husband thinks I should go to casualty but surely this is not their remit I don't know what to do.

Wow your GP needs a kick up the backside!!!!

your symptoms read like mine, apart from the bloods results lol. I have 3 types of neuropathy (I'm greedy hee hee)

I still work, although it is a struggle and like yourself I am very sleepy.

I take a whole host of pain killers which sadly only take the edge off, they do not take away the pain.

I would either change GPs or keep on at them if it is not an option. What about ur hospital care team, can etc, have you spoken to them about it?

Good luck with it x

So sorry to hear you are in so much pain and distress :(

With all that swelling and bloating could part of the problem be lymphedema?

Can you email a GP at your practise directly? When I was ignored at appointments that is what got their attention- the situation being described in writing like your post here. I'd also think about making a formal complaint. I do hope you are alleviated soon x
