Never been overweight but have Type 2 diabetes

Have you measured your blood sugar levels when you have these episodes? It may just be your body reacting to slightly lower than your "normal" levels rather than being anything bad.

I really don't know if there is any such thing as "good carbs" ...... I used to have oats every morning until I figured out it about doubled by sugar level. Now I have eggs

Just to add to your list of those who are fit and slim and T2: Sir Steve Redgrave and Prof. Tim Noakes.

@Guzzler

To your point Sir Steve Redgrave is listed as 6'5" and 227 lbs., giving him a BMI of 26.9 (or that of being in the over weight category). That too was the same BMI of Dr Micheal Mosely if I recall correctly of being 26.9. Kyle Boelte 's BMI was 22.2 with a pre-diabetic HbA1c reading of 5.9, so if you're eating a high energy / carby diet just like Sami of the www.fatchancerow.org he too was prediabetic and concerned, its easy to be TOFI thin on the outside an fat on the inside. Sami recovered as he went Keto with Finney and Volek's help as he rowed across the Pacific ocean in a 45 day record from San Francisco to Hawaii.

I am TOFI, I know this. In my opinion BMI is a bit of a rubbish calculator. I wasn't trying to downplay the great achievements by the gentlemen you cited, just to add to your list.

@Guzzler

No issues, people can be trolling or insensitive. I've no issues with your views. I care more about fixing an epidemic (myself included) as PPO healthplan for our family is now $36,000 / annum (or at least that's what my wife told me)..

This historical note on altitude training www.qigym.in https://www.telegraphindia.com/1090809/jsp/graphiti/story_11332959.jsp is quite interesting. As is the story I wrote up recently on Kyle Boelte here on www.diabetes.co.uk Kyle had a BMI of 22.2 and went down to 20.7 so thin-ish to start with and definitely thin at 20.7 when he'd completed his 480 mile walk. Yet what has struck me too is what I'm experiencing currently while on an altitude training vacation at 9600 feet.

I sense my leptin levels have risen as I am noticeably less hungry. Thus my body must be scavenging out the fats from my liver and pancreas. I've been now at altitude for the last 6 days. I've another 4 nights to go and I'll do testing afterwards. I've got pre-departure bloodwork. So I can see a "Before and After" scenario. Although in my situation N=1, its the most important number of all. My PN seems to be improving too I'm on supplements but not medication.. I while I've been here I've been a bit OTT on the exercising as its cost about $1,000 to come to altitude with all expenses thrown into the mix..

As this happen, have you noticed yourself become visibly thin? ie do you notice any visual difference when losing fat from inside? I am TOFI and have a active life style with gym/sports etc. Just wondering how best to know i am loosing fat from inside as outside I have nothing to loose :)

@nsh2111

I know I am thinner but the proof will come out after my trip is over and I've done testing. Yet read the stories of Sami http://www.fatchancerow.org/ and Ravi https://raviandalison.com/2014/10/04/hiking-the-john-muir-trail-18-days-of-blisters-and-bliss/ and in particular Kyle Boelte https://www.outsideonline.com/2125031/what-happens-your-body-thru-hike who lost 8% body fat. Its accepted that leptin levels rise when you spend time at altitude .. Ravi & Kyle did that. Sami was TOFI and reversed his pre-diabetes because he went Keto.

I don't know all the answers and I'm not a doctor but do some reading on this forum and elsewhere on the net and you can figure out a great deal if you are motivated.. I know I am highly motivated.. Good luck.. We all need good luck!
