Hi all, I'm new to the forum. I should say early on that I'm not diabetic and I no very little about diabetes. However my mother in law was diagnosed with diabetes last year and last night had her second minor stroke, so I'm really looking to learn and gain advice from here. X

High or even normal-high blood glucose levels will raise the risk of heart disease, stroke, cancer and dementia. Has she a glucose monitor? This is a very simple way to check bg and how different food items and combinations affect bg. You should be more concerned about bg than fats, contrary to old beliefs.

Hi and welcome. If you can let us know a bit more about her situation e.g. does she have a blood glucose meter, what sort of diet does she have, what was her last HBa1C blood test result. The HBa1C is the blood test the hospital or surgery do normally annually and around 3 months after diagnosis
