New blood test back

Hi all,

Just wanted to say that I just got my results back, and while there is still some way to go I have managed to:

Lower my hbA1c from an average blood glucose in April of 11.1 to now 7.5 - still work to do, but on it!

Lower my total cholesterol from 4.9 to 3.9, and halve my trigs. LDL well in range, and hasn't moved.

Unfortunately my HDL has gone down a bit too, but I'm working on that one.

I mainly asked them to do the test because I wanted to see what my diet choices seem to be doing, and so far it's all positive.

This HbA1c covers lots of exercise, alright numbers, but also a couple periods of illness with higher sugars (in the teens), so I'll take it for what it is. All I measure myself these days is 4s, 5s, and 6s, so will be excited to see the september one.

It's on the right track, as they say. Just gotta keep doing more of the same, I think. What's that then? Eat more fat! lol.

That is a fantastic drop in your HbA1c. You should be proud of yourself. Well done

Thanks all - as everyone I was a bit worried about the HF part of the LCHF, heh, but seems I hadn't needed worry about it.

I do need that HDL up though - fish oil supplements for the win! And psyllium fibre in my shakes... More almonds...

Let's see how it goes.

I'm quite sure the next hbA1c will be prettier too - no hospital to reduce my insulin to half before surgery and leave me struggling to catch up for a few weeks, lol. At least I hope not!

Me too - I'm taking vit C to try and get mine up. Low(er) carbing is supposed to be the most effective method of getting your HDL up (although in my case that doesn't seem to work).

As long as your LDL and trigs are Ok I'm not sure that HDL really matters all that much anyway.

That's a great reduction Mileana, I'm sure if it wasn't for the periods of illness it would have been much lower.

Well done Mileana great results

What was the response from your surgery to your fantastic drop in HbA1c?

I talked to the very very excellent lady at the desk there, and told her: Seems I just need to eat more fat then, huh?

And she laughed heartily and said: Yup, the more you eat, the less you seem to have both inside and out - don't think we have many who have that low cholesterol. And for the hba1c, I know you're not happy yet, but the way you seem to pick up on things after only a few months, you'll get to where you want to be.

I tend to agree with her - and I like how both the GP and her are super-supportive. Rang her tuesday morning saying: I'm low carbing, I need to see what effects I'm getting and to see if I run any risks, can you tick of this, this, this and that on a form, and I'll go have the tests taken. Yep, sure, she'd run it by the GP, so if I could just show up at lab wed morning fasting, that would be quite doable, she was sure.

So, only good things to say about those people.
