New combination drug for T2?

Has anyone heard of this, recently given the all clear in the US, upon my research it appeared to be available here already?

'n September 21, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the oral combination medicine canagliflozin/metformin extended-release (brand name Invokamet XR) for Type 2 diabetes. Invokamet XR, manufactured by Johnson & Johnson subsidiary Janssen Pharmaceuticals, combines the SGLT2 inhibitor canagliflozin with the commonly prescribed diabetes drug metformin XR.'. Of course, it may trade under a different brand name here. I've been battling with high BS since quitting smoking a year ago - it seems the effects of that can last up to 3 years. Nothing I do seems to lower them, taking 1000 mg SR Metformin. I am thinking of asking GP about this new, combined drug and interested to know if anyone has any knowledhe or experience with it please?
 
I haven't heard of this drug. If you are struggling with high numbers, maybe you might be better off with a once a day Lantus injection.

The good news is that there is a combination basal insulin called Lixilan in the pipeline - http://www.diabetesincontrol.com/combination-of-insulin-glargine-and-lixisenatide-lixilan/ which is due out shortly. This might be a good option for you.

Alternatively if you are overweight you can try the LCHF diet which many here find beneficial. Please note that not everyone is a suitable participant although cutting back on carbohydrates is backed by the medical profession.

Not overweight well within BMI and certainly not wanting insulin injection if I can avoid. BS seems stuck in lw to mid teens.
 
My carbs are minimal - hence not sure where to go with this next GP already given me a reprieve to go on stronger meds.
 
Yes my carbohydrates are minimal and i'm slim. My ex homeopath was a GP prior and she said that Insulin is a safer drug that pills. If you think you will hypo with it, you can also with Gliclazide tablets which is usually the next to be prescribed after Metformin. .....
