New Diabetic - Medicine Side Effects?

Hi everyone,

I was recently diagnosed with diabetes2 and although I did not panic, my father has it for 35 years, I was wondering if someone can answer a few questions using their experience, if any.

I was put on Gliclazide 80mg, two per day, which really helped reduce BG levels but I think they have caused me some side effects, though I am not sure.

I started the medicine a month ago but the last 10 days I get regular missing heart bits which can become annoying as I get flattering on my throat.

Did anyone else experience the same?

I would appreciate some feedback.

Thank you

Hi, Welcome to the forum, i have never taken that medication so no advice im afraid, good luck!

Missing heartbeats need to be refered to your GP not everything is caused by diabetes or the side effects of meds ,if this is the problem then the GP can change your meds ,if not then you can get it sorted Hope things go ok for you

Jst a bit of reassurance. You may be aware of ectopic beats, most people have them, many people don't feel them, other people feel every single one of them. Almost always benign but you really should see your GP for a 24 hour Holter monitor which should record them. Ectopic beats are very common, so don't be surprised if your GP is blasé. If they are very frequent, there are treatments. Bear in mind that they can increase with stress, so perhaps practice relaxation/meditation every day you have the opportunity, even if only for 20 minutes. But see your GP asap, and get a 24 hour Holter
