New diabetic with 2 babys

I have recently been diagnosed type 1 diabetic with 2 baby's under 2 years old I am struggling to come to terms with this, I keep hearing so many horror stories and I fear I'm not going to enjoy all the things I should with my babies , and how long ill get to spend with them :( , starting to really upset and worry me !
 
hi, welcome, im sorry I know know much about type 1`s but im sure things aren't as bad as they seem, others will know more im sure, good luck!
 
There are plenty horror stories but plenty success stories too! You have 2 babies who need you, that is perfect motivation to keep things under control :) ask anything, there's usually someone around willing to offer advice or comments from experience. It's a really steep learning curve but I'm sure you can do it!
 
Sorry to hear about your diagnosis mkayla but its not all bad news. I'm (almost) 30 and have been diabetic just short of 20 years (type 1) I have gone off the rails several times for long periods of times and I'm ok! No complications so far and no chance of giving up anytime soon. You have 2 fabulous reasons to keep diabetes in control and live a long and wonderful life. Feel free to pm if you want to talk xxx

Totally agree with what has been said - my boy was 17 months when I was diagnosed and it scared me but he is definitely the reason I try so hard to take care of myself - he has benefited too, as it made me learn to cook properly and we are all healthier because of it :) just make sure you always always have a hypo remedy on you wherever you are - I have been caught out a few times and not fun dragging an unwilling 3 year old to the shop cos mummy needs some sugar!

I am type 1 with a 7 month old. I make sure I have hypo treatments around the house and in the changing bag. I am often home alone with the baby as my partner works away a lot so I am particularly cautious then. I test my blood sugars regularly including before bathing him and I wear a wrist band when swimming with him.
