Take a look at my signature, I too had an HBA1c of 96 on diagnosis. All is not lost. I am not saying you can cure yourself (I Haven't) but you can control T2 diabetes in such a way that you drastically reduce the chances of developing other conditions related to it. No doubt you have reduced your carb intake (I think cider one the highest carb alcoholic drinks) by cutting the booze, but it turns up in so called healthy eating foods. If you are content without a drink, stay with it. I didnt touch a drop until I had a sub 48 HBA1c. If apple is your thing, then calvados is the new cider for you!
