New diagnosis and immediately started low carb

3 weeks into being. T2 my numbers where from 42 to 84 and she put on metformin straight away then had a talk to the doctor, she told me no drinking alcohol,no carbs, and no sugar, build on my muscle mass in exercising all for 2 weeks until I see the nurse until the 18th. I got to say not been given any diet plan yet but I think ive done quite well, feel tons better, lots of energy and getting up early in the morning and I mean early with energy don't feel sluggish either in the afternoon.. Lost a hole on my belt buckle lol.losing weight I guess. I'll come back with figures later good luck to all..... I'm on a mission now

I love the low carb. I too have energy back and need to lose a lot of weight.

Keep on your mission.

Thank you for the useful tips. I am quite overweight and am scared at the thought of drinking 3-4 litres per day.

Interestingly I have been having more salt but have been worried about it.

Luckily I like low carb food, and enjoy salads, veg, meat, fish etc. I'm missing bananas, grapes and bread. I agree it is a lifestyle for the future so will be introducing the odd treat once my levels have stabilised. My aim is to get them to consistently below 6 before meals.

In my signature, you will find details of a LC book by Voleck and Phinney. I highly recommend it. It gives masses of fantastic info - including the salt advice. Well worth reading!

Why not just try upping your water by a glass a day, to let your body adjust.
I was quite surprised by how much better I feel when I drink enough. :)

My knee-jerk reaction to @Brunneria 's recommended 1 litre per 5 stone seemed outrageously low to me. I drink much more than that! I'm quite a skinny, little person, weighing roughly 7.5st. Aside from all food and drinks, I consume at least one two litre bottle of water a day, when in UK. I spend fair amount of time in a Tropical climate and there I always, always ensure I have drunk 2 litre before lunch, with more in the afternoon.

If I don't keep my fluids up, I really feel it, so agree with Brun that you should consciously drink more than you think you need. If you fear disturbed night, make sure your topping up is done before, say, mid-afternoon.

Hi @Tansolo , well done for being so proactive!

I went LCHF the day (or maybe the day after) I was diagnosed and never gave the DN an opportunity to dissuade me from it because by the time I saw her three weeks in I was already making good progress.

See my first year story linked below. Good luck and carry on with what works!

LCHF is the way forward for me too, can't believe how much it's helped.

Got to be worth a try for all those unsure what to do first :)

Hi the one thing I have learnt is that it is your body and you should do what feels right for yourself. Unfortunately Doctors and nurses generally arnt upbto speed when it comes to diabetes. There is already such a marked improvement with your readings. On diagnosis BS reading was 26 and now its always in the 5s and its all thanks to the LCHF diet. I hope your appointment goes well and dont be afraid to express your opinion.
