Hi everyone this is my first post. I am newly diagnosed at the end of December and was starting to come to terms with this. However I have just had the eye test results back and they say I have some background retinopathy. This has totally freaked me out again and I’m having a melt down. Thanks for reading
"Some" background retinopathy? So nothing severe yet, requiring immediate action?
Stop the meltdown right now. Take a breath. You're going to be okay. Okay? Can you believe that? I know you want to, so take a leap of faith here.
Background retinopathy happens when your blood sugars have been elevated for quite a while. If there's just a little going on, you can actually make it better by getting your blood sugars under control. You
can heal the bleeds if your blood sugars come down to the normal range. Now, what has been done to do that? Are you on any medication, has there been a diet change?
https://josekalsbeek.blogspot.com/2019/11/the-nutritional-thingy.html <-- here's everything I wish someone'd told me right when I was diagnosed. Would've saved me a lot of tears and terror if I'd been sat down and explained a thing or two, but rarely any of us ever get that talk. Learn about diabetes and how to tackle it. A lot of people here have done it and are medication
and complication free. There's no reason why you wouldn't be able to do the same.
So breathe.
You're not alone, we can help you, and you aren't going to go blind overnight or anything. There's hope yet. We've got you.
