Hi all, husband has just been diagnosed type 2 and also has high cholesterol. Reading through some of the threads on here Keto sounds good as he was told to cut carbs. The thing that concerns me is that it is very high fat. So would we be dropping his sugar levels but raising his cholesterol? It’s a bit mind blowing for us at the minute as very new to it and want to do the right thing. Any advice gratefully received. Many thanks.

High lipids, especially triglycerides are part of the whole metabolic syndrome. My levels fell into normal once I got my blood glucose levels under control via keto. IMHO, that’s the place to start.
if you’re still concerned about cholesterol, you can choose from fat sources such as salmon, olive oil, avocados, flaxseeds, nuts etc.
Cholesterol is required for many bodily functions such as cell membranes and substrates for hormones. So they aren’t evil.
control the diabetes, than reevaluate diet and exercise from there
I'm one of the minority whose LDL Cholesterol is much higher with Low Carb High Protein Traditional Fats. But I was already aware that the Total Cholesterol figure is meaningless and even the LDL figure means very little. For one thing it isn't measured - just calculated using one of 2 formulas. For another it is the ratios and the Triglycerides which are the most important (studies have shown that on average people over 60 with higher LDL live longer than those with lower LDL and also that more people with low LDL have heart attacks than those with high LDL.
LDL is important for production of hormones and also for a well functioning immune system.
My HDL is nearly twice as high since ditching statins and eating Low Carb, and my Triglycerides have almost halved!
