New Diets

Hey guys,

I've been told by a number of people now that my diet is the first thing I need to change.

Could you offer any advice on how to get into a healthier diet? I've started reading up on carb counting but it seems like my meals just got a whole lot more complicated!

Does anyone have any tips to get carbs under control or is it just a case of getting into a routine?

Thanks!

Hiya Linda ... if you take a broswe through the Low Carb section (link below) you might find what you are looking for:-

The first thing I did, once I decided I wanted to eat fewer carbs, was to cut out potatoes, rice, bread and pasta. This takes into account the sort of person I am. I'm a bit of an all or nothing girl, not good at just having 1 chocolate out of the box :) . I have always planned my menus for the week, and cook a lot from recipe magazines that have the carb count of the dish anyway. So now I just look through my books, make my menu, substitute where I have to and life hasn't got much more difficult. I think ahead and know what snacks I can have at home or if I'm out. It gets easier with practise but it was confusing at the beginning. Hope it helps!

Hi Linda,
There is an excellent article to help you that has been put forward by the Monitors. It is on the Greetings and Introductions Board as a sticky, "Basic Information for Newly Diagnosed Diabetics".
