Yes I'm on it. It's the safest and most popular of all the diabetic drugs. It works mostly by stopping your blood take up sugar. It will reduce your blood sugar readings by at most 1 or 2 so isn't a substitute for a good diet but it will really help to stop your sugars rising fast after you eat. Its also good for your heart.
Some people get bad stomach problems or end up running to the loo. If you get that and it doesn't go away after a few days go back to the doc and ask for the slow release version (SR) as that helps most people.
You might also get the same bad reactions if you eat too many of the wrong carbs. Its's metformins way of saying "don't eat that" in some cases.
