ok so got my new hba1c results and its 7.9% now and it was 8.1% 5 weeks ago ...im just thinking could it of been lower.... ive changed my diet, i dont have milk in my porridge which is keeping me stable in the morning and not getting me high reading after, and im doing low carbs for lunch still walking around a lot when im at work but sticking to the same dinner, as i usually suffer from low blood sugars in the night or day if im on nights. to be honest i dunno what else to do other than keep going on.. and maybe im just putting myself down cause i want it to be at 7% so i can start my ivf asap

Hi

A1C ideally should be done every three months as it is an average of 3 months.

Hi Claire. It could just be the margin of error that applies to the HbA1c result and also, of course, what @brettsza said - 3 months between tests gives the most useful results.

This is what I'm telling myself as, even though I have been especially careful this last month, my number has increased from April (6.8%) to 7.2% in May! I am very grumpy about that.

I agree with @brettsza, your A1C should only be done every 3 months. Take a look at your Feb result compared to May (3 months later) and you've achieved a 0.9% reduction. If you can carry on like this, I'd be surprised if you didn't hit your target of 7% by Aug, if you can be patient and wait for another 3 months.

but sticking to the same dinner, as i usually suffer from low blood sugars in the night or day if im on nights.

You shouldn't have to eat to cover lows; perhaps you need to get your basal completely sorted out. Ideally it should maintain a flat in target blood sugar without you eating or having to take any corrections. From what you are saying it sounds like your evening dose is too high.

On the HbA1c you are going in the right direction at each test so keep it up!

Agree with Dillinger.

Are you eating a meal or anything in the evenings?

Have you actually done any basal testing?

As a general rule of thumb if you are high or low 2-3 hours after eating then your bolus would need amending. Other times it would be your basals...however basal testing would help to establish reasons...
