New here and looking for some help...

Thank you Conrad for such a detailed response! I have been shopping at Aldi etc for fruit/veg/meat etc which has been better than previous. I'll buy some oats when I get my money through on Friday as I do find I snack a lot through the day.

I'm guessing that you're on JSA at the moment. Have you spoken with your DSN and the Dietician about getting a letter from them to support an application for Disability Living Allowance? I learnt (from the mother of a T1) that she fought for and obtained DLA for him so that he could buy better quality food (e.g. more fruit and veg / better foodstuffs such as Jordans porridge, etc.).

It's may be worth the effort - I haven't been through the system in over a decade, so I can't comment on recent experience (unless is really is just as bad as it was then - and I won't be shocked to learn that it is).

With regards to the snacking, porridge will definitely help reduce that need in the morning, whilst things like wholegrain rice will fill you up in satisfying way at other times. As do high protein and fatty foods, such as cheese, fish and red meats - BUT not too much red meat as it can result in constipation, colon disorders, etc.

Good luck: it IS hard and it takes time and perserverence - especially if you've been struggling with control issues for some time... I'm still stumbling from pillar to post, but I'm much, much better as a consequence.

Ps. Good luck with the job hunting - I'll keep my fingers and toes crossed.
