I was diagnosed in September last year as Type 2 as I had gestational diabetes with both kids and no family history of anything related. Docs couldn't work out if I was T1 or T2 - now think I'm T1 and I'm on insulin. Will my kids now be more susceptible to getting Type 1 cos I've got it?????????
Been reading stuff on here for a while and learned more than from any professional!!!

My problem is I can't get my insulin right. I'm on 6 units slow acting at night and carb counting for my evening meal. My BG was 18 and 23 at diagnosis but has come right down so nurse tells me I've nothing to worry about but when I have my tea I weigh my food every time and count carbs but I can have different effects every time. Its really doing my head in I'm trying so hard to get it perfect but it seems like someone up there is trying to keep me on my toes!!!

I can eat same meal, same weights, same insulin dose and have completely different BG levels 2 hours later! I am also putting weight on now I'm on insulin which I don't want but I don't think low carb diet would work for me.

My first HBA1C was 19 which was at diagnosis - just waiting for my first "proper" result. My monitor says my 14 and 30 day average is around 5 so hopefully it'll be OK.

First time on here! Hello!!!!!!

Type 1 has far less genetic weighting that Type 2.

When you get it later in life (LADA) you may have a prolonged period where your pancreas is still partly working ("honeymoon") in children the onset is usually rapid but some adults may still have measurable insulin output after years.

In view of the gestational diabetes you may also have a tendency towards Type 2 or at least insulin resistance, I'll leave discussion of the insulin to a Type 1 but you could adopt some of the anti-IR techniques from Type 2s, reduced carbs and especially growing and using muscles are helpful.
