Type of diabetes

Hi
I am a new member and would like to tell you a bit about myself and my family. My grandson is 12 years old and has just been diagnosed with TYPE 1 DIABETIES. His mam is so so worried as is myself (grandma. great-grand-dad,auntie and his Dad,) We are a family from Gateshead,Tyne & Wear and would like to know if anyone knows of any groups near to our home. We are learning very fast but would like to become more involved with Diabeties to help our grandson and the people who have to live with it everyday. :?: Any help will be gratefully apreciated, thanks .
 
Hi anne, welcome to the forum, although i am useless here, i know that with the help and support of hes terrific family you guys will work this out together and it will not be as bad as it seems right now, there is lots of advice here, ask any questions you may have, and read up as much as you can, many many folks here have been through what you guys are going through right now and have come out the other side, best of luck

Hi ..... thanks for your kind welcome :) We are learning very fast and all helping my grandsons mam/dad. Being the only child/grandson/great-grandson he is loved so so much. Trying to get all the help we can and trying to get involved to help others also. thanks again.
 
Welcome Anne, I don't know of any groups unfortunately but just wanted to say welcome. Wise words from Andy though, this forum is a wealth of information, just ask ! Take care !

Hi Anne,

It is good that the whole family are involved. You can ask any questions here as plenty of Type 1s developed their diabetes during childhood and there are plenty of parents here who have children with Type1.

The book that comes highly recommended is

It is a manageable condition but is very bewildering to begin with. You will get plenty of support here, just ask.
