Type 2 New meter - old meter issue

Hi I was wondering if anyone has had the same issue as I have at the moment regarding glucose meters.

I have been self monitoring for a year now using an On Call Plus meter, but as I have moved country I can no longer get test strips so I was forced to buy a new one (Accu-Chek Active)

With the last 3 test strips from my old machine I did my usual 9.00 AM fasting test on both machines for 3 days, expecting them to be, if not the same, not far apart.

Here is what I found

Old New
Day 1 121 94
Day 2 116 75
Day 3 103 89

For the last few months my old meter has been showing around the 100 mark (the week before these readings I went on holiday so they are slightly elevated from normal).

Now I have no idea if my old meter is erring on the high side, or my new meter is erring on the low side. Or if one is accurate within a reasonable margin of error, which one?

I took advantage of being on holiday to attend a lab for some blood tests and my old machine recorded 111 at 7 AM and the lab result recorded 98 at 8 AM which seems about right.

I suppose it's academic in that I now only have one working meter and I will just have to go with it!
 
I would suggest you check using a control solution for each device to ensure they are operating within their limits.
 
You really need to look for trends rather than specific readings your new meter may or may not be highly accurate but will still show rising or falling trends which as long as you are not injecting and having to carb count for insulin dosage is generally good enough.
 
Hi, I have a selection of blood glucose meters as I am unable to get them reused. This helped me in testing the same blood sample on two "Accu-chek meters" and even they shown up to a 10% difference and a Libre test strip showed different reading and as to control solutions they only provide a guide

Thanks, yes I came to the same conclusion. I was just surprised how far apart the two meters were. At least the new one is consistently lower :)
