New prediabetic and meter readings

Hi all, thought I'd register and post - been lurking around here for a while.

I was diagnosed a pre-diabetic about 3 weeks ago.
I had a fasting glucose level of 6.3 mmol/L and HbA1c at 5.8%.
I'm assuming the ranges are country-dependent? Prediabetic range is 6.0 - 7.0 and 6% - 7%.
My LDL and HDL are a bit on the high side as well.

Since then, I've been under a bit of anxiety spell (getting better, I think). My diet has completely changed - perhaps too drastically at the start. I don't really measure how much carbs I'm taking in though.

The thing I'm a bit confused about is that my average fasting level (according to my Accu-chek meter) for the past 10 days is only about 5.12. The highest fasting reading was 5.6, and I had two below-5 readings. And I seem to be successful in keeping my 2-hour post-meal reading < 6 most of the time...

Sometimes I wonder about whether the meter readings are too low. Would a meter be consistently lower than the lab test results? Or is it really more about the amount of change before and after meal than the actual numbers?

The same lab showed I was at 6.2 three months ago - I only did minor adjustments to my diet at that time, so that was a big regret. I was thinking of doing the test at another lab in about 2 months time.

Thanks for reading.

Hi and welcome. Your readings on your meter are normal and to kill for. Don't knock them. As you were diagnosed pre-D it should only take small changes to bring levels down to normal. I did it from very high to normal in 3 months so why can't you. Be pleased with yourself. I bet your lipids have improved too.

Thanks for that. I need to get a grip, I know. I've never been this worried about my health before. I've been diagnosed with chronic prostatitis as well, and that's been adding to my stress. When I'm outside, it sometimes feel frustrating to feel like there's nothing I could eat at all.
