I'm Seeing it as preventing flood damage
I found out I lived on a flood plain that day I was DX'd & now accept there's always a risk
But it doesn't mean I don't try to limit the possible damage it can cause by some simple & some more spirited precautions .
I baled and dried everything out when first flooded (DX & LCHF for 6 months)
I then looked to limit any places the water might leak in (low carb diet )
And reinforced where possible (exercise).
And keep a close eye on things
(Glocose meter daily uses )
So far, so good.
Had to take action once or twice (Xmas, holidays) to stay on top, but fingers crossed not had another flood like the DX one.
The whole gaff might be in need of redecorating, and I'll admit all the doors creak a lot more, & yes, ok the Roofs not so well thatched ....but I think overall the foundations haven't fared too badly with a little informative prevention, imho
And no where near to the damage I expect those who decided at my Desmond's meeting,
...."it's only water, what a lot of fuss about nothing "
as they passed the biscuits & cake around, have likely inflicted on themselves, sadly.
