I was born in Honolulu Hawaii. My parents are both third generation Japanese. My dad is a US Navy pilot and has been MIA for 2 years, I live with my mom.

I went to the doctor because I had a UTI, he took some tests and 3 days later he said I was diabetic. I went to the hospital and stayed for 7 days where they treated me with insulin and antibiotics for a kidney infection. They taught me how to test and inject insulin and very little more. I stayed 4 days with my T1 diabetic aunt so she could help me get started . My aunt had to go out of town so I'm with my mom. I'm scared and worried about my future, if I have one.

Welcome aboard Amber Jean.

I don't have anything to constructive to say to you right now, but there are many, many long-term T1 diabetics here, with no complications and excellent lives.

Of course, you have a lot of learning to do to be comfortable with your condition, but if you look after yourself, I am sure you can have a good, long, fulfilling life. :)

There is a future.. Diagnosed T1 on my 8rh birthday. Nearly 40 years on.. All good. I've still yet to see Japan.(Don't take offence) , would rather go to Japan than the States. Love the cars so much I own a Jap import.) But have been to India... (Among other counties.)

Welcome anyhow. There are plenty your age on this forum.. The world is out there. "Make it so.."

Hi and welcome. If you have any specific T1 questions, then do look at the T1 forum and ask away. Can you let us know a bit more about your insulin regime e.g. is it Basal/Bolus with two insulins and are you carb-counting yet i.e. adjusting your Bolus insulin to your meal-time carbs? If you're not sure what this all means let us know. This is an excellent forum where I have learned a lot and hopefully helped a few newbies. There is a vast amount of experience available - just ask. Your future should be fine as long as you can reasonably control your blood sugar and once you get used to it I think you will find it's not a big problem.
