Hi, I am very new to all of this and it has come as a shock as there is no history of Diabetes in my family. My wife is a nurse and had the insight to test my blood sugar which was reading between 27.5 and HI. I am now on insulin 4x and Metformin 2x and feeling off. My bloods are coming down slowly around 15 but I am feeling very shakey and dizzy, is this normal at the beginning?

Thank you for any advice in advance.

Hi. Yes, with BS that high you won't feel normal - I didn't. Normality should return very fast once your BS is below 20'ish and nearer to normal below 8. Make sure once things are settled that your DN explains 'carb-counting'. This is where you adjust the Bolus insulin for each meal to suit the carbs in each meal. This achieves the best BS levels whilst eating freely.

I find that I feel the drop in blood sugar more than the 'low' blood sugar itself. Going from 27.5 to 15 is quite a big drop, even if over a few hours.

Once your blood sugars are more stable, the symptoms should subside.

Take care
