Type of diabetes
Type 1
Hello. my name is Judith and I am 51 years old. I have had diabetes for 7 years - went straight onto insulin as my sugars were quite high!!!!!!!!!!!!! I would love to chat with anyone who fancies chatting to me. I am married with 3 children all still living at home :? We also have 3 dogs which keep us quite busy.
I am also very fed up and if anyone can give me advice I would be so grateful. I have recently changed my insulin routine - I now take Novarapid 3x a day and a longlasting insulin which I take just before bed. I also saw the dietatician the other day and we had a really good chat about carbs and insulin - I felt really jolly and thought this could be the answer. BUT, my sugar levels have been high ever since and I don't know why? There was me thinking I now knew everything, could lose weight and still have the occasional chocy!
Anyway enough moaning - I'm usually the happy chatty one, so if there is anyone who fancies a chat or could give me some help - give me a call.
Judith :D

hya and a warm welcome to the forum,
im younger than you but im married with 3 kids too and 2 dogs,
i also take lantus and novorapid with meals, ive been on this regime for a few mnths now and it does take a while to learn what your carb ratios are but once you do it really is much easier being on the basal bolus,
i started doing 1 unit novo to 10g carbs and then tweaked it to what it needed to be,

the basal needs to be correct before you can fine tune the bolus, what kind of readings are u getting in an average day and with what meals?? we will try our best to help you, have a good look around and feel free to ask as many questions as u like :D

Hi Judith, and welcome to the forum.
4 kids and no dogs, so I dunno if that's better or worse?
As totsy said, we'll try and help with some advice from other diabetics if you can give us a bit more detail. I'd love to know what the dietician said to you about carbs and insulin!

hi judith and welcome to the forum i have a wife, two kids ,a dog ,a rabbit and a giant goldfish,i wont be able to give you any advice on diabetes but you are more than welcome to give me a shout dermot

Hi Judith
3dogs, 2 cats, older than you, daughter,son-in-law and granddaughter live nearby
I am fanatical about BG control. I tell everyone, how reducing my carbs has improved everything. Good control( at non-diabetic levels) and some weight lost, which I keep off and trying to get more off.
I have a T1 husband who has multiple complications, from 30 years of what I would call poor control and which the doctors thought was good enough. I find I now have to do the Man's work round here. Cutting grass and clipping hedges as well as all the flower gardening.
Sun's shining, the garden os calling
Welcome
Hana
