New to exercise - what to eat before exercise?

Hi,
I have just joined a gym as my waistline and fitness levels are awful, I now work from home also so I have stopped the daily commute into work, 20 min to and from car.
My worry always is how much sugar should I have before and during exercise, I always worry about this and in the past when I have been to the gym I either have too much so go high or too little and go hypo.
I am 34 and been type 1 diabetic for 24yrs and on a insulin pump
Any suggestions appreciated.
Many thanks x

Hello :) I always have 1 cereal bar and/or a banana depending on what my sugars are doing. For example if they are below 5, I will have both, below 7 I will have a cereal bar and I eat this about half an hour before working out. Ideally I like to have my sugars around 10-12 before exercise as they drop quite a bit during and after exercise. And of course I always take glucose tablets. I also find my insulin requirements are less if I eat a main meal soon after exercising.
