I am new to the forum. I have had type 2 for 10years and take metformin daily. I have ignored my diabetes until this week when levels have gone out of whack. Every 6 months I have blood tests and Ha1c is usually between 6.5 and 6.9
Have not been well for few days GP says check blood sugar levels for week and come back. Well I did this and he was shocked at after meal readings. So here I am with my new eating and exercise plan and today is the first day of my new regime.
I have also told my family I have diabetes did not bother before as they have the idea that people with diabetes are lazy and all they do is eat sweets.
So I will be spending time going through the forum for help and ideas

Welcome to the forums @Jean1954

Have you changed your diet much? What med's are you on?

Have not changed diet toast for breakfast, sandwich for lunch usually ham cheese and tomato then meat or chicken and veg for dinner. Rice cakes or half a muffin for snack.
Take 2 x 1000mg metformin with dinner.
Only drink water and green tea
I think it's lack f exercise I try to walk for 30 mins a day and incidental walking
I think lack of enthusiasm for exercise is problematic

Hi there and welcome @Jean1954

To be honest, what you eat will have a bigger impact on your blood sugars than exercise, although of course, exercise comes with other health benefits.

Looks like your diet might be a little carb heavy. I’d recommend looking at dietdoctor.com for some ideas on how to reduce them while still eating well.

You could also join in this friendly thread: https://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/threads/what-have-you-eaten-today.75781/page-2158

I’ll also tag a few friendly type 2s who might be able to help. @Rachox @DJC3 @Sugarlisa @JoKalsbeek @shelley262

Hi @Jean1954 and welcome to the forum. Thanks for the tag @Goonergal
I was diagnosed over three and a half years ago now. Since diagnosis I have taken Metformin but as @Goonergal says my changing to a low carb diet had the most effect. When I was diagnosed I couldn’t exercise much as I was waiting for surgery on my feet. Diet Dr is a brilliant website, with diet plans, recipes and advice, much of this available without having to subscribe.

Hello and welcome,

Well the great news is that you have found this site. I agree with @Goonergal that what you eat will have more impact on your levels than exercise (though of course that's helpful).

Please find a link below that many find helpful:

Diet dr which has already been suggested is also a great resource.

I have found that dramatically cutting my arbs has brought my levels into the normal range.

Good luck and welome!
