Hi,

New to the forum, but T1 for 10 Years.

I'm fairly lucky in that my control is said to be good, HBA1C of around 6 (varies a bit always close)

I'm currently on Humalog before meals which I vary depending on BG reading and what I'm going to eat and Insulatard to cover everything else. From a quick read through the forum other insulin's seem more popular, any pros / cons?

I probably test more than most, 10~ times a day, but it works for me. Although I do get hassle from the GP about how much I cost them.

Anyway Hi to all and look forward to contributing where I can

Steve

Hi Steve,

Welcome to the forum. I too test about ten times a day (newbie) Last time I was at GP he asked me how many times I tested and when I told him he said that once I get better control I wouldn't have to test so much. I promptly replied that I already had good control thank you, simply because I DO test so much. I will never change that belief, so he better get used to it. The first time he complains about the amount of test strips I use I'm going to tell him that I will cost nine times more if I develop complications and promptly smack him one!!!!!

I would be reluctant to change insulin, but I'm interested in knowing what's changed in recent years as I'm using the same type of insulin I was prescribed when diagnosed.

As for the test strips, it's ranged from 'Why do you test so much' to 'You must have a problem if you test so much and by the way do you know how much they cost?'

Luckily other than the unwanted confrontation it's not been too bad.

Totally agree!!!! Sometimes I do think GP's can be a little short sighted.....

Agree with the others you'd cost them a lot more if your A1c wasn't around 6

The problem is the strips are an up front cost, your amputations and dialysis don't need to be paid for yet
