Hi, just recently registered on the forum. There is a long history of diabetes in my family (gran, dad, brother, sister, aunt, uncle, cousin....) I've been monitored by my GP for years and got the all clear until I was diagnosed type 2 about a year ago. (Was age 54) Put on simvastatin 40mg as also have long history of heart disease in family. No other meds. On 6 month checks but I'm going to buy my own meter so I can work on managing this properly. (Was told i don't have to check but have noticed a difference of opinion regarding that on here) The posts I've been reading have been helpful, it's good to know I can get help here if needed. - Caroline

Hello and welcome aboard.

Yes, do buy your own meter. It will be your best friend, at least initially. You would also be wise to start a food diary (including portion sizes) and record your levels alongside so you can look back and see patterns. By doing this you can tweak your meals until you are happy with the result.

Hello Caroline, I will tag @daisy1 who will be along shortly with some great information for you. Have a good read then come back and ask any questions that you may have. Welcome to the forum @Rul2m

Thanks I've already read Daisy's posts regarding basic info but as time goes on I've no doubt questions will come up.

Thanks Liam, I went looking for that one when I read the posts. The only probs I had was verifying my account so I could post, eventually realised I had missed out a bit of my email address, hence no email. (Victim of predictive text lol) Will let you know when I get the meter etc.

@Rul2m - You are welcome Caroline :). As @13lizanne and others have said, if you have any questions just ask, you will probably get several replies. We are all friendly, helpful and supportive to one another. :)
