Type 2
I have just started on insulin.
I have been type 2 for 20 years and due to CKD have had to half metformin and stop gliklizide.
Currently, I take 500 x 2 metformin and 5 linagliptin and 44 units of Humilin I.
At my last check my hb1c was 50, with meter readings of 7 - 8 priot to the change.

I am titerating up by 2 units every 4 days and my first reading of the day is on average 9.
Then during the day it goes up to 12 at lunch and tea before dropping back to 9 at supper.
Currently, I weigh 144.3 Kg. and have been reducing very slowly. Wheelchair bound with little exercise possible.

Can anyone advise me as to how I can get my starting number backdown to 7.

Kind regards
Stewart

Hi Stewart,

I would advice to go on a Low-Carb, High Fat Diet.

Reduce your carb intake by as much as 20-30g per day or less, eat oily fish, lean cuts of meat coked in rapeseed oil or vegetables in olive oil.

Avoid potatoes, bread, pasta, noodles, white rich and other starchy vegetables.

Also avoid sweet fruits high in fructose, alcohol, cakes, chocolates, crisps, ice cream etc.

By eating healthy, proper foods and low carb, you will see the gradual change and less need for insulin.

It’s a complete lifestyle change!

Good luck.
