New to pumping

I started the insulin pump earlier last month and up until last have had no problem until this morning bloods of 22.6 due to set coming loose while sleeping.

While my bloods have greatly improved to near normal by doing all I've been instructed to do or check ketones, drink and deliver correction by injection. I was unsure if tonight would be suitable to do fasting bloods. Still trying to set basal rates and fine tune it. Any advice would be greatly appreciate.
 
Providing you have had all additional insulin out of your body for 5 hours prior to resting it's ok...
 
The thing with pump is.. If you have seen a set come off you don't have to correct by pen neccessarily...

With any unknown or known causes providing you have changed tube and or set or the cause of high you can normally correct after you have done the remedily...

To be honest... My pens are in a box somewhere, I hsve injections somewhere, my back up insulin for pens is in fridge and has never been used in almost 5 years....

I correct after I have changed whatever I need to... I double my correction doses if over 12.0 bg. If due to a bad mess up like a set accidentally coming loose and levels go to 20's then I also put on a 250% tbr for one hour.

Providing I see levels coming down 2 hrs later then after that I check hourly. I do not check ketones for a **** up.

The only time I will check ketones if I am high constantly due to illness. To be honest I've used one strip in nigh on 5 yars.

May be lucky.. But thats my way of hsndling. I've never had DKA ever.

DD has answered you question, so I will add a tip for you. :) Place a bit of tape (micropore or Mefix) across your tubing this stops any preassure on the cannula and thus prevents it from being pulled out.
 
When bg levels have gone up fairly high, then its best to play safe and use an insulin pen to get them a bit lower again. Most doctors recommend this as well. There have been a few times, when my pen has saved my bacon especially when the pump has not delivered insulin ok.

I tend to use transpore tape over sets that I put in my backside as usually going to the loo a few times can sometimes make the adhesive start to curl at the edges and if not careful, the set can get caught and come out.
