New to self testing

Well pretty new to it.
I've been testing for about a month since my GP changed my medication.
It is a freestyle freedom lite and it says my average over 30 days is 7.6 14 days 7.4 and 7 days 7.7.
Are these too high?
At my last visit to GP he said they are well too high and to be honest I am frightened to death.

I suppose that it depends on when you are testing.

If the reading are before meals then they are too high.

If they are soon after meals then I suppose that they could be said to be not too bad - but ideally lower would be better.

Average readings are frankly just a guide. They don't tell you an awful lot.

You need to test on waking, then at least 2 hrs after a meal. Some people test 1 hr after a meal as well and before going to bed. Depends on your readings throughout the day. Only in this way will you know if you are doing well or not.

As a T2 your Feb 2009 guideline Bg readings are as follows:

Fasting (waking)..................between 4 - 7 mmol/l.
2 hrs after a meal.................no more than 8.5 mmol/l.

I'm testing before meals. Breakfast lunch and dinner and before bed.
Results before lunch and dinner are between 5 and 6 and there is always a high reading before breakfast.

Hi marz.

Testing before meals is fine in itself, but that only gives you a fraction of the picture. You have to test after meals as I said before a few posts back. Keep a food diary so you know what foods affect your Bg levels. That is the only sensible way to controlling your Diabetes.
