Hello I'm a british national living in holland.. was diagnosed in 2008 with diabetes and tried the conventional diet given from a diabetes dietist.. but have steadily gained more weight and increased my medication since then.. very unhappy..
since 1 month i have done a turnaround and gone LCHF...

Does anyone know how to translate the european numbers..
I'm on a LCHF way of eating since 1 month and have lost 10 kilo's with no exercise as my foot was broken..
My doctor here in holland is happy but i would like to know how to understand more deeply my diabetes numbers and translate them into american numbers..
With the calculator it's too easy i want an indepth way to translate..for eg. my 3 months nuchter( fasting) is 7.8; my GLYHb (HBA1c) (%) is 40.. the easy calculator gives just numbers but i want to know what they mean and if they are still in the diabtetes range or if there is a significant chane for a reverse, which is what i'm trying to do...
My doctor was concerned if my cholesterol would go up, but it didnot!!! I have never felt so good in years..
I eat everything full eg milk, cheese, butter, yogurt, cream, clotted cream, fat left on meat etc.. no bread hardly no potato's, some rice crackers a few times a month..
I donot use sweeteners and feel better from it.. i use honey sparingly, stevia in coffee, and alot of bananas in smoothies and in dark green leaf smoothies(for folate(folium acid))..
I cook with butter, pork fat, and coconut oil..
In 1 month time by body is telling me its happy.. i dont forget so much anymore aswell...
I have had pasta twice this month, but i don't miss it at all.. i can go from 6pm till 9am without having cravings of any kind such a big difference..
Is anyone else experiencing this...

it's like finding nirvana, isn't it :)
7.8 fasting bad, a1c 40 isn't that bad..seems you may have mostly insulin resistance and will achieve a good outcome from LCHF, which will bring down your IR
40 is the old 5.8% which is an average 6.7 on your meter over the period

Thanks Jack I'm still confused how you get BAD for 7,8.. as my educator this morning found it very good.. i haven't been lower than9 since6 yrs... I cannot test as here you can only get on the health insurance if you are type1 diabetic..
My daughter had diabetes in her pregnancy last year and gave me her last testers which i used up during half of this monthand on that meter my bs went steadily lower each day.. i even got a reading too low sometimes...
I really would like to get indepth calculations and so i can relate on the american forum which i've been a member now for 2 years...
thanks again Jack.. lovely weather here in the south of holland

thanks Jack, not possible to change here comes in the doctor surgery:(..But i know some of those sites just the dietdoctor not.. will give it a check...
7.8 is fasting and Hab1c is 40.. i guess the fasting was high as i do not go as soon as i wake up.. so during the time i wake and the time i get to the bloodbank its already got higher.... but yess i am IR..but i believe now that i have a thyroid disfunction which caused this autoimmune desease.. I'm researching that at the moment.. with a few summits going now is the evolution of medicine... I attended reversin diabetes which triggered my decision..the thyroid summit was very very interesting aswell..

Hi and welcome,

These are the current NICE guidelines as used by the NHS.

Non-diabetic fasting and pre-meals 4 to 5.9mmol/l; 2 hours after meal under 7.8
Type 2 fasting and pre-meal 4 to 7mmol/l; 2 hours after meal under 8.5
These guidelines are old ones and need updating to reflect current opinions. Many of us here aim for less.

HbA1c
Non-diabetics 20 to 41mmol/mmol
Type 2 48mmol/mol and above
42 to 47 is classed as pre-diabetic.

Does that help?

Thanks bluetit, yeah thats helps some more like my HbA1c is way good.. just my fasting which is in such a short time much better.. so hopefully in another month (i have to go back to my doctor as they are curious as to how another month will turn out..) hopefully it will be more in the normal range...:)..
HbA1c january 51, march, 55, april 53, june 50, september 40
fasting january 10,6, march 9,7, april 10,4, june 9,5, september 7,8

You are doing really well @sweetisha
You can buy a home monitor on-line with testing strips for very little money
http://www.homehealth-uk.com/medical/blood_glucose_monitor_testing.htm

Many people on here use this meter because the strips are very cheap. I'm sure they would deliver to Holland. You can then keep an eye on your fasting results as well as your after meal levels. You were right when you said your fasting tests at the blood clinic would be higher than normal due to the added stress of getting there, waiting, and anxiety about results etc.
