Hi I'm Sally and I'm new to this forum. Was diagnosed 13 months ago as t2 and on metformin and statins. Whilst my cholesterol is much lower than it was and my nurse is reasonably pleased with me, I am a yoyo dieter and either find it hard to stick to a diet or get bored. I know it's my health and know the dangers of diabetes but I just feel like I'm in self destruct mode all the time. Really struggling to get this under control and know that it's important but am a real carb addict and I mean that in the real sense I of the word addict. Does anyone else feel like this? I really want to get this under control but have no willpower.

Hi @S4lly and welcome to the forum. I think many on the forum are or were carb addicts which contributed to our T2 diagnosis.
I certainly ate a lot of carbs before I was diagnosed, but the shock of being told I was diabetic, and the horror od finding out the possible complications motivated me to go 'cold turkey' drastically cutting my food and carb intake for 6 months, reducing my HbA1c and weight. I can now eat carbs again but in moderation.

I was a yoyo dieter too, @S4lly, and a lchf way of eating has helped my health massively, virtually eliminating binges.

Good morning @S4lly I have only been diagnosed 3 months and sometimes it gets difficult when the Mrs wiseowl sits there with her birthday box of chocolates but then I am reminded that my low carb approach is purely my choice it hasn't been forced on me,no body loved there Carbs more than me I was like a runaway carb train;) 3 takeaways a week, custard doughnuts, mars bars, goodness me reading my words it seems now that I am talking about someone else, not the old me;)its your choice I know you can do it,and whats more important you know you can do it,I have asked Tesco's to change the colour of their Custard doughnut bags as they are a bright yellow at the moment and as soon as I walk past them every day they stand out like the sun in a blue sky,but they haven't answered me yet(LOL)I love my new diet,I love all Fish, meat,Lidl's Rolls all kinds of Cheese(my favourite is Edam);),Salads,Hecks sausages, there is still a fantastic choice out there for us low carb professionals ,just please think what you can eat and not what you can't eat,Good luck my friend :)

I used to like Edam and Cheddar mainly, but having tried lots of different cheeses since being diagnosed I have decided that LIDL's Comte is my favourite. It has a sweetish slightly nutty taste, and I like the texture. When it is in stock I buy 6 blocks. I usually have some thin slices with a glass of wine. You should try it.
I do like Camenbert and Brie too @Angelofthemarches but I tend to eat the whole block if I get some.

If you are going to LIDL you could also try their shelled walnuts and pecan nuts. I thought they might be a bit dry, but they aren't. Another of my go to snacks. And their 70% Cocoa Orange Dark Chocolate is my favourite chocolate - but I'm often tempted to eat more than I should.

Hi and welcome. If you increase the proteins and fats when you lower the carbs it should help you feel full for longer. You can wean yourself off carbs but it takes time. Make sure the wrong things aren't brought into the house.

Hi Sally. I can't praise the LCHF diet enough. It has totally cured me of any carb cravings. It is no longer "a diet" It's a way of life and I love it! There are so many wonderful things you can eat .. often stuff you thought was out of bounds before.. :)
I used to love milk chocolate but my taste has changed so much it seems sickly sweet to me now.
Give it a try, what have you got to lose !
There are some great recipes on here.. would you believe I've had low carb coffee and walnut cake for breakfast and it actually lowered my BG !
